A conditioner can leave hair smooth and soft, but still create another problem: yellowing.
This matters especially in white or light-colored conditioners, where a visible color shift can affect the appearance of the finished product.

So when choosing an amino silicone, smoothness should not be the only thing you test.
Can it improve combing, softness and manageability while keeping yellowing low?

Amino silicones are widely used in hair conditioning because of their affinity for the hair surface. They can improve slip, combability and the overall conditioned feel of the hair.
But stronger conditioning is only useful when it fits the rest of the formulation brief.
For many conditioners, formulators need several things at the same time: easy wet combing, smooth dry combing, softness, static control and good deposition. If the finished product is white or lightly colored, yellowing also becomes part of the ingredient-selection decision.
This is why comparing amino silicones only by their initial slippery feel can miss an important part of the picture.
This is where Higsoft®-720 comes in.
Higsoft®-720 is a low-yellowing Bis-Aminopropyl Dimethicone for hair conditioning applications. According to its product data, it improves both wet and dry combing, with particularly strong performance in dry combing, smoothness and softness.
It also provides anti-static performance and good deposition on hair.
For the formulator, those properties address several familiar problems at once:

Dry or chemically treated hair often becomes rougher and more difficult to comb.
Higsoft®-720 forms a firm film on the hair surface, helping improve the conditioned feel of damaged hair. Combined with its deposition, smoothness and combing performance, this makes it relevant to products developed for dry, rough or damaged hair.
Instead of focusing only on the feel immediately after application, 720 targets properties consumers notice during actual use: how easily wet hair detangles, how smoothly dry hair combs and how soft the hair feels afterwards.
Higsoft®-720 has a solid content of ≥90% and is supplied as a high-active silicone fluid.
It is also easy to emulsify.
For conditioning products, it can be diluted with a lower-viscosity silicone fluid before low-temperature addition, or added directly at low temperature where appropriate.
For 2-in-1 shampoos, Higsoft®-720 should not be added directly as the original silicone oil. It should first be emulsified with a suitable nonionic surfactant to obtain an appropriate silicone emulsion, then incorporated into the shampoo at around 40°C.
This gives formulators flexibility to work with the material across different hair care systems rather than being limited to a ready-made emulsion format.
Higsoft®-720 can be evaluated in:
- Rinse-off conditioners
- Hair masks and intensive treatments
- Leave-in conditioners
- 2-in-1 shampoos
The performance target may differ by application.
In a rinse-off conditioner, wet/dry combing and softness may be the priority. A hair mask may need stronger smoothness and damaged-hair conditioning. For a leave-in product, smoothness, manageability and static control can become more important.
Higsoft®-720 is particularly relevant when your formulation needs strong smoothness and softness but yellowing is also a concern.
